The Humane Society of Meeker & Kandiyohi Counties (HSKMC) is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose purpose is to help abused, neglected, abandoned and stray animals as well as to educate the public on the proper care of animals and to promote the spaying and neutering of companion animals.

  • Walk ins welcome! Adoptions need to be started 30 minutes prior to closing. We do not have an online application, our adoptions are done through staff and adopter family interviews.
  • Dog to dog meet and greet appointments are appreciated to allow enough staff time.
  • Surrenders need to have an appointment, calling to be placed on our surrender list is the first step.

Wish List

Items on this wish list are desired for the management of the shelter. The items can directly relate to helping the shelter animals, cutting costs from the budget, foster care animals and even the public.


Your generous donations can be tax deductible too. Just ask for a receipt and we can give you one at drop off. Please drop off during business hours.


We do accept donations that have been left by our door as well. We can't thank you, but we still appreciate your time and effort in getting the items to us.


We do not accept small bath towels (only large). No bed sheets, or bed pillows. No rusted or broken crates. 


We do accept dry and properly stored dog and cat food that your pet might not have eaten or had to switch to a new one. The donation can help feed animals whose humans are having a hard time or are between jobs. Also we accept medications that your pet can no longer take.

Volunteer Training

There will be only classes for dog walkers. if you are wanting to visit the cats, please come anytime.

  • New policies, please read instructions
  • Prior volunteers will need to retake class and fill out new forms (prior to 3/2019)

Dog and Cat distemper vaccine is $15

Dog and Cat rabies vaccine is $15

Dog and Cat microchipping is $40


Show up at the event with animals in crates or on leashes, Please practice proper distance for animal safey, check in at front table.


This is for families who have low income, are on food stamps, medical assistance, veterans, disability, social security, etc.
